HISTORYOF NEW COVENANT

The roots of New Covenant Presbyterian Church started to bud in the summer of 1993 when several Christians decided to meet together and pray. This meeting morphed into a weekly Bible Study and by October of the same year, Dr. Ligon Duncan, former Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson (PCA), started leading a weekly Bible Study on a series covering the book of Hebrews. In May of 1994, the Bible Study group had grown into a new Mission Church under Grace Presbytery of the PCA. The following month, New Covenant had designated 21 Charter Members and sought out a new place to host weekly worship. By August, a Pastor Search Committee had formed and in February of 1996, a call was issued to New Covenant’s first pastor, Rev. Dennis Flach, under the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC).
11 years later, the Lord had provided New Covenant with a brand new church sanctuary and multi-purpose building currently located at 130 Homochitto Street. These new buildings and their completion were celebrated with a Thanksgiving and Dedication service on Sunday, October 28, 2007. Since that time, the congregation of New Covenant has faithfully worshiped their Lord and Creator every Sunday.
Rev. Dennis Flach served the people of New Covenant faithfully for 18 years, retiring in December of 2014. After his retirement, New Covenant contacted Reformed Theological Seminary of Jackson and inquired of weekly Student Supply preachers to fill the pulpit every Sunday. There were also many guest preachers who came by the traditional “word of mouth” fashion to aid in New Covenant’s time of transition and adjustment. This is how the people of New Covenant met their second pastor, Rev. Seth Duhs.
Rev. Duhs first attended New Covenant in March of 2015 as pulpit supply. In January 2016, he became the pastor of New Covenant. New Covenant Presbyterian Church was officially dismissed from the EPC in April 2016 and officially welcomed into Grace Presbytery of the PCA in May 2016. In 2018, New Covenant's congregation and community raised over $60,000 to build a playground behind Decker Hall, which was dedicated to the Lord in April 2019. Rev. Seth Duhs announced he was taking a new call as an Air Force Active Duty Chaplain in December 2020. His last Sunday at New Covenant was February 21, 2021.
After a year and half of being without a pastor, the New Covenant congregation unanimously called Rev. John Franklin to be their third pastor on May 8th, 2022. Rev. Franklin was installed as their pastor on July 10th, 2022 after serving as the Associate Pastor at Olivet Presbyterian Church (PCA) since September 2018. He and his family love worshiping with the people of New Covenant.
